It is an age-old rule of business that you have to give what the customers want before seeking what you want from the customers. If you want lots of profits, you cannot expect the customer to give this to you as a precondition of your service or product. Just take the example of Henry Ford and the manner in which he popularized the automobile in America. When he introduced the assembly line system, he quickly realized that the customer base in America that could afford automobiles was not very high. In such a scenario, it was obvious that the huge volumes of production would not result in high profits.
This is where he focused on the long-term and decided to create a customer base by giving higher wages to his employees and offering them a two day holiday every week. The same day courier service is also another example of how the service providers can create a customer base out of nothing. Instead of charging a very high premium for the service, the service providers offered this option at a very affordable price. Once people got used to this option, they were provided to pay a premium as long as delivery was made on the same day.
Well, offering affordable service and focusing on high volumes is the smartest way to make your business a success. Sadly, hybrid car makers do not realize the importance of this point yet. If hybrid cars were to be available at a price cheaper than the modern automobile, then the increase in demand and the rising volumes of sales will automatically convert it into a profitable transaction.
On the other hand, the car makers are simply charging a lot of money and are waiting for the customer to go in for this option simply because it is an environmental friendly one. Combining environmental friendly products with financial savings is the best way to increase the market share and generate more profits.
