Whilst Hybrid cars have become more and more popular in the past five years there are still many elements that manufacturers have yet to match with the standard petrol engine; speed and power being chief amongst them. The Infiniti Coupe goes a long way in showing just how far hybrids have yet to go before they become a viable alternative for true car lovers. Acceleration, torque and movement are just three of the elements on the Coupe that a hybrid still struggles to cope with.

Many auto reviewers have already rated the G Coupe as one of the models to go for in 2012 if you’re looking for a powerful, upscale-midsize car. It may not be able to match some of its bigger brothers and sisters in terms of girth and expense, but it more then makes up for it in speed, control and a surprising amount of fuel efficiency when you consider what’s under the bonnet.

Boasting some potent V6 engines, the Infiniti Coupe will often leave other road cars in its rear view mirrors long after the lights have turned green. Taking corners at a sharp angle without loss of control is another of the model’s specialities and test drivers have been delighted with the level of speed they can maintain on a sharp axis bend. Compared to a Hybrid Toyota the Coupe loses out only on the amount of petrol it uses within the suburbs or city centres. Whilst a hybrid will use virtually no fuel when travelling under 30mph, the Coupe will grumble and guzzle more when driving within the city limits. That said, this is not a car designed for slow driving, and as many testers have commented it is very adaptable and useful on long road trips. Compared to a standard Hybrid you’ll get where you’re going faster and on long trips, sometimes more efficiently then you would expect from such a machine. To sweeten the comparison even further the Coupe boasts a rear view camera that automatically activates when you’re reversing providing you with an extra view of what’s behind. For those that struggle with parallel parking this handy option is a no brainer.

The Infiniti Coupe may not be to everyone’s taste but it does illustrate a stark comparison in power that the hybrid industry must overcome before they become true contenders on the market.

There are individuals who are of the opinion that hybrid cars do not offer significant benefits as far as protection of the environment is concerned. They believe that hybrid cars can, at best, be described as a solution that reduces the guilt of the average individual who does many activities which affects the environment negatively. Hybrid cars make use of technology that helps the individual make use of the traditional gasoline based engine along with other environmental friendly solutions.

In some cases, the vehicle will run on gasoline over long distances and can be switched to run on battery powered engines when traveling within the city. In other cases, the battery that is used to power the engine is a fuel cell. However, it will be virtually impossible to use the automobile without relying on the gasoline engine. In such a scenario, the negative effect on the environment will continue.

Another significant disadvantage is that the hybrid automobile costs a lot more than an automobile that uses a gasoline engine or a battery operated motor only. The fact that the automobile is a hybrid one may offer an advantage if you are a rich person who does not mind spending a lot of money for advanced technology. In such a scenario, the utility of this automobile comes down drastically.

Those who support this automobile will have to come up with steps to make it affordable for the average individual on the street. This is one point that just cannot be ignored. Just as manufacturers of HR payroll software applications are putting in efforts to make this product affordable for small and medium businesses, the manufacturers of hybrid vehicles should also adopt the same approach and help ordinary individuals purchase these cars.

In fact, these automobiles should be cheaper than the ordinary automobile available on the street. That will be possible only if people are prepared to forgo their short-term profits for long-term gains. Until this issue is taken care of, it will be very difficult for the average individual to switch to hybrid vehicles on a permanent basis.

The issue becomes even more complicated when one considers the maintenance of such an automobile. Maintaining a hybrid automobile can be complicated task as compared to maintaining a device that runs on gasoline or electricity alone. When one considers this cost, one is forced to come to conclusion that hybrid automobiles are very expensive as compared to ordinary cars.

It is an age-old rule of business that you have to give what the customers want before seeking what you want from the customers. If you want lots of profits, you cannot expect the customer to give this to you as a precondition of your service or product. Just take the example of Henry Ford and the manner in which he popularized the automobile in America. When he introduced the assembly line system, he quickly realized that the customer base in America that could afford automobiles was not very high. In such a scenario, it was obvious that the huge volumes of production would not result in high profits.

This is where he focused on the long-term and decided to create a customer base by giving higher wages to his employees and offering them a two day holiday every week. The same day courier service is also another example of how the service providers can create a customer base out of nothing. Instead of charging a very high premium for the service, the service providers offered this option at a very affordable price. Once people got used to this option, they were provided to pay a premium as long as delivery was made on the same day.

Well, offering affordable service and focusing on high volumes is the smartest way to make your business a success. Sadly, hybrid car makers do not realize the importance of this point yet. If hybrid cars were to be available at a price cheaper than the modern automobile, then the increase in demand and the rising volumes of sales will automatically convert it into a profitable transaction.

On the other hand, the car makers are simply charging a lot of money and are waiting for the customer to go in for this option simply because it is an environmental friendly one. Combining environmental friendly products with financial savings is the best way to increase the market share and generate more profits.

Purchasing backgammon sets made of new materials or with the help of a new technology is not a big deal. If you decision does not work out, you can always skip the set and go in for a traditional set all over again. You can try selling the set to a friend or relative or simply dump it into the garbage can. You cannot do that with a hybrid car, can you? This is probably the reason why hybrid cars are not becoming very popular.

People do not have the perfect answer for the numerous ’What If'questions yet. What if the car does not work properly? What if I am stranded? What if the car breaks down? What if I have to spend a lot of money maintaining the car during the first few years? These questions have no perfect answers.

A lot depends on how far you are ready to trust the technology yet. The sad part is that a person who is making a huge investment by purchasing a vehicle is just not prepared to operate on faith. He wants a technology that is tried and tested and is completely safe. Unfortunately, hybrid automobiles are not at that stage yet. You may find many hybrid cars on the street but all it takes is a single breakdown of a single car for people to raise questions on the consistency and reliability of the technology.

This may not be a very fair and sensible approach but this is how things work. In such a scenario, hybrid technology will have to perform in a consistent manner over a long period of time to ensure that such basic and fundamental good questions are not raised. People too will have to learn to operate on a bit of faith and must consider the long term implications.

Transportation is only going to get more and more pollution free and this is for the good of the planet.

I know there are many who are happy to buy the low cost petrol and diesel cars, but let me tell you one thing: very soon you might have to pay certain taxes for owning these cars and you would wish that you would have rather bought a hybrid car. If I have to compare between a conventional car and a hybrid car then I can only see benefits when it comes to a hybrid. The only time you will see a hybrid car scoring less would be when you will compare it with another hybrid car.

I have always been a fan of Toyota cars and I recently bought a hybrid car from Toyota. The car is nothing less than perfect. The technology it uses has made the fuel consumption so low that all I can say is that it saves a lot of money. And if you are going to drive your hybrid car then you have another benefit. With a hybrid car you don’t have to pay any congestion charge or road tax, so that’s saving me money in three ways. I am so impressed with this green living that the next I am buying is a Solar Panel. I have even enquired about the prices at Solar Panels Kent and I think they have some great offers. I just hope that I will be able to save more money.

Off-roading vehicles, which require four-wheel drive, are known for being gas guzzlers. Off-roading fans concerned with rising gas prices can rejoice in the fact that the Austrian car manufacturer Magna Steyr has built the MILA Alpin, a new eco-friendly 4×4 concept car.

Magna Steyr manufacturers almost a quarter of a million cars annually, but is not well-known because it builds cars for other automakers, like BMW, Chrysler, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz and Saab.

The MILA Alpin’s design is modular so it can use parts and systems from other cars. Propulsion and drivetrain systems in particular are adaptable in the MILA Alpin, whose flexible design allows it to easily be a hybrid with low emissions.

The car also boasts independent suspension and electronic stability program systems, so handling is excellent. The designers gave the car optimum weight distribution for good traction, as well other impressive features ideal for off-roading, like its ability to climb 45-degree inclines. So chances are very soon when you do your Stansted transfers you may be able to opt for one of these all purpose 4×4’s.

The interior is also well-designed, with innovative adaptable seating arrangements and an expansive panoramic roof that allows for impressive visibility for all occupants.

The powerful off-roading performance, eco-friendly options and cool, futuristic form and function, coupled with the thoughtful modular design making it easy and cost-friendly to manufacture.

This means that the MILA Alpin is a car that consumers, manufacturers, and the environment can love as long as price is not a consideration.

The Mail online even ran a story spotlighting a rare incident in the US where a hybrid had been left to charge overnight in a couple’s garage only for the house to burn down a few hours later. The fact that fire fighters could only speculate as to the probable cause of the fire shows that a lot of the negative press has been propaganda.

Hybrids may not be the best that they can be yet, but that is only because of the oil industry at large holding back technological progress and maintaining a strange-hold on the market. It is common knowledge that many oil companies own the patents and technology for greener energy production. The reason the general public have not had access to this technology is because of the oil companies'reluctance to let go of a market they completely control. With hybrids becoming more and more popular it is only a matter of time before someone outmanoeuvres the oil industry and produces cleaner fuel.

A definite pro of hybrid cars is the ability to gain internet access whilst you’re driving one. Many models are now coming with roaming Wi-Fi access installed as standard allowing drivers and passengers to browse the net whilst travelling. The roaming charges are not the best, but by thinking ahead an alternative worldwide roamig sim card can be inserted into a USB add-on and used to access the web whilst driving. This can be very handy if cash flow is an issue. The only con to the use of the internet in the car is the drain it can have on the hybrid’s battery. With hybrid’s taking usually several hours at best to charge, a faster drain on the vehicle’s battery is not a desirable option.

Another pro to hybrid technology lies obviously in its lack of CO2 emissions. However critics have counterbalanced that argument. The chargers required for hybrid cars run off mains electricity. If the mains electricity comes from fossil fuel power sources then it is hard to say that hybrids don’t produce CO2 emissions. They may not produce them on the road, but if powered off fossil fuel resources then they are indirectly as responsible for CO2 emissions as a normal petrol engine.

Hybrids are one of the best additions to the automotive industry in recent years. Whilst there is a way to go before completely green energy sources are made available, hybrids show a positive step in the right direction.

A lot of people consider hybrid cars to be simply a big marketing trick. They complain about the looks, about the build quality, about the fact that in order to assemble one hybrid car, thousands of litres of fuel are burned for the transportation of the exotic parts the hybrid is made of. Well let’s debate on these questions. First of all, the hybrids look different, but according to us, they look good different. They are futuristic and very funky. Second, the build quality is not always top notch, but most of the time, those cars are very well crafted. Yes, the latest bmw has a better interior, but we don’t care about that. And third, yes, those parts come from all over the world, but this is also true for the other cars as well. The only problem with hybrids and electrics is that their batteries are kinda poisonous. However, don’t think that those batteries will be taken to the local landfill when their time comes. GM and Nissan have joined forces and the end result is spectacular. The old car batteries will be used to power entire neighborhoods. According to both companies, after 10 years of hard use the batteries in the electric and hybrid cars have to be replaced. Those batteries however are still good for other uses, for example as a back-up energy source. Even though power cuts are not so frequent, it is nice to know that you have a back-up. For example 33 batteries from Chevy Volt can power around 50 households for a period of four hours. This is impressive right?

The recent popularity of hybrid vehicles seems to have caught the fancy of both vehicle manufacturers as well as customers.

The reason for this stems from the benefits derived from a hybrid vehicle. It has a conventional as well as a hybrid engine the combined mileage of which is phenomenal. In fact, 60 miles to the gallon is the norm! Be it Stansted airport transfer, a trip to the movies or drive to office, a hybrid car saves you money.

Added to this are the tax breaks offered by the government. So you save money here too. Some governments provide free parking to hybrid vehicles. Besides this, some countries have designated lanes for hybrid vehicles to drive on thus bypassing the bumper-to-bumper traffic in peak hours. Cause to feel smug?

On the flip side, when a hybrid car is involved in an accident, it will be difficult for you and the rescuers to get you out of the car for fear of electrocution. These cars carry large amounts of voltage and wires that teat off may be potentially dangerous to handle. Improved safety standards have mitigated this to a large extent though.

Another disadvantage is the initial high price of such cars. Even though it is offset in the long run, it may put off a lot of potential buyers. On a long-term basis, hybrid cars tend to be cheaper to own and run than conventional cars.

With fuel prices on a high with no signs of dropping in the near future, if you are planning to buy a car, think hybrid.

There are many pros and cons to driving a hybrid.

The most obvious pro is the reduction in fuel emissions and the main reason people buy hybrids. An unfortunate con is the smugness people exude sometimes when driving a hybrid. This is particularly prevalent in California where for the past few years Hybrids have been the envy of other road cars as they were given access to the car pool lanes. This allowed them to avoid the usual choke of traffic and speed by more idle vehicles. Hybrid smugness may go down a bit though as solo hybrid drivers have now been banned from using the car pool lanes in Los Angeles. A recent report by the LA Times showed that only 6% of drivers on the Freeway were actual hybrid drivers. It was deemed that the use of the car pool lanes was unfair as hardly any of the hybrids using the lane were carrying more then the driver.

A less intrusive pro to hybrid cars though is the fact that many of them come with the technology to plug your phone in via Bluetooth. Usually reserved for the petrol engine vehicles, you can now enjoy a mobile roaming solution in your hybrid car. This technology will also be making its way to electric cars soon enough.

Whether or not you’re a fan of hybrids, there are many arguments to persuade you over whether or not to buy one. Just don’t do what Gerald did in South Park, and you’ll be fine.
